SDL as a manufacturer of RTD’s
Complementing its’ detector producing expertise, SDL has an extensive RTD manufacturing business founded on the same emphasis of high product quality and service. It operates to the requirements of ISO;9001;2008, and its’ calibration laboratory is accredited to UKAS, offering uncertainties as low as ±0.6mK over the range –85°C/650°C.
SDL’s strength is in its’ ability to design and manufacture of temperature sensors, especially RTD’s, for specialised applications, whether for high precision applications such as the pharmaceutical industry, or for high reliability applications such as for large electric motors and generators, safety critical areas such as the nuclear industry, or any other specialised application .
An area that is of growing interest, especially to the pharmaceutical industry, is for very close tolerance RTD’s, frequently to 1/20th DIN tolerance, (i.e. 0.07°C at 121°C). This ability has offered SDL’s customers significant advantages and cost savings in certain critical areas, especially fermentation, solvent recovery, and sterilisation processes.
SDL is able to supply to such exacting specifications because it manufactures the ceramic wire wound platinum resistance detectors, the complete RTD assembly including any machining that is required, and if necessary calibrates the assembly to UKAS, all on the same site.
This has the advantage that critical applications can be checked by calibration at various stages of their manufacture, thus giving assurance that the finished RTD will meet the Customer’s requirements.
